#84 Communication is Key
A session centered on verbal and non-verbal communication and trust between players, using a blindfold format. The warm-up involves pairs with one player blindfolded and guided by a partner while dribbling. The skill development is a small-sided game where only blindfolded players touch the ball. The session concludes with a free 5v5 with player-elected captains.

Players work in pairs; one wears a blindfold and dribbles the ball slowly while the sighted partner guides them verbally, warning of obstacles and other players. Partners swap roles regularly. Safety: sighted player must guide at all times; all players must be respectful.
- •As a guide: give clear, calm, simple instructions — left, right, stop, go
- •As a blindfolded player: trust your partner and keep the ball close
- •Communication should be continuous, not just reactive
- •In the free game: encourage players to self-organise and use leadership skills
Skill development — blindfolded small-sided game: Each pair has one sighted guide and one blindfolded player. Teams of three pairs plus goalkeepers play a small-sided game. Only blindfolded players may touch the ball. Sighted players guide by holding hands (no dragging) and giving continuous verbal instructions. Swap who wears the blindfold regularly. Game application: Free 5v5 on mini-pitches (no more than 5v5). Players elect a captain; no referee. The two captains ensure rules are followed fairly. Coaches rotate captains frequently so all players experience leadership.
