Get players moving with the ball, introduce dribbling under pressure and develop juggling as a fun consequence activity
Set up a 30 x 20m dribbling zone with two keepy-up zones at each end. Two defenders are positioned inside the main dribbling zone. All other players have a ball and must dribble from one end to the other, attempting to get past the far line without losing their ball. If a defender kicks a player's ball out of the zone, that player must move to a keepy-up zone and practise juggling until a winner is found in the dribbling zone. The last player remaining in the dribbling zone wins the round.
- •Keep the ball close and use your body to protect it
- •Look up to spot the defenders before they get close
- •Use changes of speed and direction to beat defenders
- •Scanning — check your shoulders before receiving to know where defenders and teammates are
- •Shielding — use your body to protect the ball and create space
- •Quick passing — play early and accurately to keep the ball moving
Allow players to express themselves and apply skills from the session in a free, game-realistic environment
Set up a large circle of players split into two teams (alternate bibs). One player from each team starts in the middle of the circle, creating a 1v1 battle. Wall players remain on the outside of the circle. The two players in the middle compete to score points — a player earns 1 point each time they receive a pass from a wall player of their own team and successfully pass on to another wall player in their team. Rotate the middle players regularly so everyone gets time in the centre. --- Set up multiple small practice areas, each with a goal or target. In each area, a blue attacker is positioned with their back to goal, closely marked by a red defender. A blue wall player starts a short distance away with a ball. The wall player passes to the blue attacker, who must use a spin or turn to get behind the red defender and score. If the red defender wins the ball back, they score a point by dribbling over the start line. Rotate roles regularly so all players experience both attacking and defending. --- Organise players into 3v3 games on small pitches with goals. Play flows freely with minimal stoppages. The coach observes and allows the game to develop naturally, offering encouragement rather than instruction. Rotate teams as needed to ensure all players get adequate game time.
