1v1 Madness
A U6 technical session focused on ball control and 1v1 skills. Players develop dribbling, shielding, first touch and turning ability through progressive 1v1 activities before finishing with free small-sided games.
Get players active and comfortable on the ball whilst introducing dribbling under pressure
Set up a 30 x 20m dribbling zone with 2 defenders in the middle. All other players start on one end line, each with a ball. On the coach's signal, players attempt to dribble to the far line without losing their ball to a defender. If a defender kicks a player's ball out of the zone, that player moves to a designated Keepy Up Zone at the side and practises juggling. The game continues until only one player remains in the dribbling zone — they are the winner.
- •Keep the ball close when defenders are near
- •Use your body to protect the ball
- •Look up to spot the defenders before you move
- •Scan before receiving to know where your next pass is going
- •Use your body and arms to shield the ball from the opponent
- •Pass quickly once you receive — do not hold the ball too long
Allow players to express themselves freely and apply skills from the session in a game environment
Organise players in a circle with wall players on the outside wearing alternating coloured bibs. Two players in the middle wear different coloured bibs (one per team). The 1v1 players in the middle earn 1 point each time they receive a pass from one of their wall players and successfully pass to another wall player on their team. Wall players stay on the outside and provide support. Rotate middle players regularly. --- Set up multiple small areas, each with a small goal. A blue wall player stands at the edge of the area. A blue attacking player starts with their back to goal, being closely marked by a red defender. The wall player passes to the blue attacker, who must use a spin or turn to get away from the defender and score. If the red defender wins the ball, they dribble over the start line to score a point for the defending team. Rotate roles regularly. --- Split players into teams of three. Play 3v3 games to small goals. Rotate teams if numbers allow. The coach observes but intervenes minimally — no stoppages, let the game flow naturally.
