TITLE: 1v1 to Four Goals

PLAYERS: 2–8 players

DURATION: 10 minutes

TAGS: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, 5-a-side, Beginner, Developing, Advanced, Dribbling, Defending, Small-Sided Games

DESCRIPTION: Two players compete 1v1 on a small pitch with four mini-goals (one at each corner). Each player defends two goals diagonally opposite and attacks the other two. The format creates constant decision-making about which goal to attack.

OBJECTIVES:
- Develop 1v1 attacking and defending skills
- Improve dribbling, changes of direction, and feints
- Encourage quick decision-making on which goal to attack

EQUIPMENT: balls, 4 mini-goals or cones to make goals

MAIN ACTIVITY: Set up a small square with a mini-goal at each corner. Each player defends the two goals at their end and attacks the two goals at the opponent's end. Play 1v1 continuously. When a goal is scored or the ball goes out, restart immediately with the defending player. Rotate players in and out every 2–3 minutes.

COACHING POINTS:
- Attack the space quickly when you win possession
- Use body feints and changes of direction to wrong-foot the defender
- Defenders: stay between the ball and your goals; delay the attacker
- Keep the ball close when dribbling in tight spaces

PROGRESSIONS:
- Easier: use larger goals or give attacker a head-start
- Harder: reduce the playing area
- Add a condition: player must touch both their goals before shooting
- Progress to 2v2 to four goals for a team element
