TITLE: 1v1 to Goal

PLAYERS: 3 players

TAGS: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U18, 7-a-side, 5-a-side, Developing, Advanced, Dribbling, Shooting

DESCRIPTION: A 1v1 drill in a narrow corridor just inside the penalty area. Attackers must beat a restricted defender to exit the back of the corridor and shoot on goal, developing close control and finishing.

OBJECTIVES:
- Improve close control and dribbling in tight spaces
- Develop ability to beat a last defender and finish with a good shot
- Build defensive positioning within a narrow zone

EQUIPMENT: Cones (for 12x5 yard grid inside penalty area), Full-size goal, Goalkeeper, Soccer balls, Starting cone (7-8 yards outside grid)

MAIN ACTIVITY: Create a 12x5 yard grid just inside the penalty area. Assign 1 defender inside the grid. Goalkeeper in the goal. Remaining players start at a cone 7-8 yards outside the grid, each with a ball. The defender can only move within the grid. The attacker must beat the defender and exit out the back of the grid (not the sides) to get a shot on goal. Rotate defenders every 1-2 minutes. If an attacking player is stopped by the defender, the attacker immediately becomes a defender for the next attacker.

COACHING POINTS:
- Good control and keeping the ball close
- Good shot on goal after beating the defender
- Beat the defender with speed

PROGRESSIONS:
- Easier: widen the grid or reduce defender intensity
- Harder: narrow the grid or have the defender be fully active
