TITLE: 2v1, Receiving while Facing the Defender

PLAYERS: 3 players

TAGS: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U18, 7-a-side, 5-a-side, Developing, Advanced, Passing, Dribbling

DESCRIPTION: A ball control drill working on trapping and controlling with the foot, thigh, and chest while facing an advancing defender, then deciding to dribble or play to a second attacker in a 2v1.

OBJECTIVES:
- Develop ball control with the foot, thigh, and chest under pressure
- Improve decision-making: turn and dribble vs pass to support player
- Practice 2v1 attacking scenarios

EQUIPMENT: Cones (for 20x30 area), Soccer balls

MAIN ACTIVITY: Create an area approximately 20x30 yards. Groups of three. Player 1 starts on one side of the grid. Players 2 and 3 start on the opposite side. Player 1 serves the ball into Player 2 and follows the pass to defend. Player 2 moves towards the ball, makes a quality controlling touch away from the advancing pressure of Player 1, and attacks the end line where Player 1 started. Player 2 can pass to Player 3 creating a 2v1. A goal is scored by stopping the ball on the far end line. The server serves to the chest, thigh, and feet at the coach's instruction.

COACHING POINTS:
- Quick control and move forward
- First touch should be into space away from the advancing player
- Controlling player must decide to pass or dribble
- Proper technique when controlling the ball with different body parts

PROGRESSIONS:
- Harder: place a 2nd defender 5-7 yards behind Players 2 and 3 to pressure from behind; this defender makes a recovery run to get goal-side of the ball
