TITLE: 1v1 Transition Game

PLAYERS: 6 players

TAGS: U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U18, 5-a-side, Developing, Advanced, Dribbling, Defending

DESCRIPTION: A fast-paced 1v1 transition game focusing on beating the defender and getting the ball to a waiting teammate, or quickly transitioning to defence if possession is lost.

OBJECTIVES:
- Develop 1v1 attacking skills: feints, fakes, change of pace
- Practice quick transition from attack to defence
- Improve defensive body positioning

EQUIPMENT: Cones (for 15x15 yard grid with 4 side windows), Pinnies

MAIN ACTIVITY: Split 6 players into two groups with different colour jerseys. Create a 15x15 yard grid. Using cones, create a 5-yard window on each of the 4 sides. Teammates line up in the window across from their own team. One player from one team starts as a defender. One team starts with the ball and attacks the defender to get across the grid to their waiting teammate. If the attacker successfully passes to their teammate, that player becomes the new attacker and takes on the same defender. If the defender wins the ball, they play it to either of their teammates along the side. The player losing the ball immediately becomes the new defender.

COACHING POINTS:
- Attackers: move with speed to take on defenders; use 1-2 quick feints before getting the ball to a teammate; transition immediately to defence on losing the ball
- Defenders: good body position on the attacker; fast approach, then slow and low; remember ball or player, never both

PROGRESSIONS:
- None specified — adjust intensity level
