DESCRIPTION: A drill focusing on building an attack near the penalty area with a numerical advantage to get shots on goal. Forwards decide to turn and shoot or lay off to midfielders. Emphasis is on scoring.

OBJECTIVES:
- Develop attacking play with numerical advantage
- Improve decision-making for target players (turn and shoot vs lay off)
- Practice shooting and goalkeeping

EQUIPMENT: Cones (for 50x25 grid), Full-size goal, Portable goal, Goalkeepers (2), Soccer balls

MAIN ACTIVITY: Create a grid the width of the playing field, approximately 50x25 yards with a portable goal 25 yards from the primary goal. Two keepers in goals. Two target players from the attacking team start at the goal they are attacking. Two defenders close them down. Remaining attackers start near the defensive end. Attacking team's midfielder plays into the feet of the checking target player. The 4v2 is played to goal. Target player decides to turn and shoot or lay the ball back to the midfielders. If defenders win the ball, they attack 2v4 on the other goal. Alternate teams.

COACHING POINTS:
- Attackers: read pressure to decide whether to turn and go to goal or lay back and reset
- Remind attackers: you miss 100% of shots not taken
- Focus on movement and positioning after laying ball back to midfielders
- Midfielders: take first-touch shots when the opportunity arises

PROGRESSIONS:
- Have the forwards play as target players
- Add a third defender for more realistic pressure
